Seemingly unable to stay away from the history books, Cristiano Ronaldo is now set to become the first recipient of the newly-named Paolo Rossi Award.
The Italian Footballers' Association (AIC) has decided to rename the accolade given to Serie A's golden boot winner after Italy legend and 1982 Ballon d'Or winner Rossi, who passed away in December last year following a battle with lung cancer.
As such, with Ronaldo being the top goalscorer in Italy's top flight last season with 29 strikes, he will become the first player to get his hands on the newly-named prize.
"The Italian Footballers' Association has decided to forever bind to 'Pablito', the blue hero of the 82nd Mundial, the coveted award assigned since 2011 to the top scorer in Serie A," a statement from the AIC read.
"In fact, it was impossible to make a better debut because, as decreed by the 2020/21 championship, the Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, author of 29 goals with the Juventus shirt, will be the first player to be awarded the award with the name 'Paolo Rossi'.
"The initiative is shared by the AIC Board of Directors which found the immediate consent of Federica Cappelletti, the wife of the champion who died last December.
"In the roll of honour of the event promoted by the Footballers' Association, Ronaldo's name follows those of Fabio Quagliarella and Ciro Immobile, winners in 2019 and 2020.

"It will therefore be up to CR7, as it is called by the fans, to receive this new version of the trophy that also stands out for its original look, consisting of a transparent 'plexiglass' ball, embellished with two silver discs, one of which is gold-plated, with the photo of Paolo Rossi in the centre.
"Twenty-nine, like the goals scored by Ronaldo in the last Serie A edition, are instead the diamonds set in the artifact, for a total value of 3.30 carats.
"On the occasion, it will be up to Umberto Calcagno and Gianni Grazioli, respectively president and general manager of AIC, to deliver the Paolo Rossi Award to Cristiano Ronaldo together with Federica Cappelletti."
