Leonardo Bonucci sends warning to Cristiano Ronaldo

Leonardo Bonucci has sent a warning to Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of a potential FIFA World Cup play-off meeting between Italy and Portugal.

Both Italy and Portugal fell into the play-off positions after failing to secure top spot in their respective qualifying groups last month.

Should both sides win their first play-off match-up, they will meet in the final round, which means either the European champions or Cristiano Ronaldo will not be present at the World Cup.

"I [spoke with] Cristiano Ronaldo and we joked about the possible Portugal vs Italy match.

"We'll see what happens on the pitch, Cristiano knows he will suffer some blows," Bonucci told RAI Sport.

"We have to concentrate on what we will do on the pitch, then in March we will meet again and I am convinced that we will play two great matches."

The Azzurri will take on North Macedonia while Portugal have a tougher task in Turkey for their first play-off encounter.
