Transfers: Jose Mourinho 'eyeing' R425m African defender

According to Calciomercato, Borussia Monchengladbach and Algeria left-back Ramy Bensebaini is a target for Roma after Leonardo Spinazzola ruptured his Achilles tendon while representing Italy in their 2020 UEFA European Championship quarter-final clash against Belgium.

With Spinazzola's spell on the sidelines set to last several months, former Chelsea boss Mourinho has set his sights on the 26-year-old Algerian to fill the vacant left-back role at the Serie A club.

It is claimed that Juventus are also admirers of the player as they look to add depth to their squad, with Alex Sandro being the only natural left-back on their roster.

The Brazilian also suffered a number of injuries last season, leaving his countryman Danilo, who is naturally a right-back, to fill in on the left side of defence at times in that campaign.

Bensebaini was one of Monchengladbach's top performers in the 2020/21 season, scoring seven goals across all competitions as he played in various positions, including at centre-back and in defensive midfield.

With the versatile African having also impressed in the 2020/21 edition of the UEFA Champions League, his price tag has reportedly been set by his club at (€25 million) R426 million.

Mourinho, who was officially unveiled as Roma manager today, has seemingly already been busy trying to get deals done in the transfer market, with Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Rui Patricio and Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka reportedly close to joining the Giallorossi.
