'Osimhen is rude and he was not brought up well'

2023 CAF Men's Footballer of The Year Victor Osimhen has now been slammed amid his recent public fallout with former Nigeria coach Finidi George.

Last month, George resigned as the Super Eagles boss just weeks after he was formally unveiled as the permanent coach.

Nigeria endured a disappointing 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign in June, as they drew 1-1 with South Africa before a shock 2-1 defeat at the hands of Benin.

George tendered his resignation after reports started circulating that he would get sacked and replaced with a foreign manager.

However, results on the pitch weren't the only issues, as the 53-year-old's relationship with star striker Osimhen broke down. The Napoli player recorded an Instagram live, reacting to an online story which claimed that George accused him of faking an injury.

Osimhen's online outburst has since been met with criticism in many quarters in Nigeria, with retired Super Eagles star Taiwo Oloyede being the latest to blast the centre-forward

"Like Osimhen talking to Finidi George. He must come out and apologise," Oloyede told Sportsboom.com.

"What has he done in his life that makes him better than Finidi? Is it money? Fame? Has he won the Champions League? Has he won the Nations Cup? Being the highest goal scorer in the qualifiers is not an achievement if it's not repeated in the tournament proper.

"Just because he was the highest goal scorer at his club when they won the Scudetto last season doesn't give him the right to talk to Finidi like that. He's very rude and going public to rant that 'Ogun' will kill somebody shows he was not brought up well. He also lacks good advisers to put him on track."

It's still unclear whether George and Osimhen will reconcile but the two are now unlikely to work together again in the national team as Nigeria continues the search for a new foreign coach.
