Why Alves rejected Barca & Juve

Brazil star Dani Alves has explained why he turned down offers from FC Barcelona and Juventus after leaving Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain.   The 36-year-old became a free agent at the end of last season after his contract with the Ligue 1 out came to an end.   Despite his age, Alves went on to help Brazil clinch the 2019 Copa America title and he was also named Player of the Tournament.   Alves has since revealed he had the chance to return to Juventus and Barcelona in the off-season, but the full-back claims the offers were not up to his standards.   "I had the possibility of returning to Juventus. I had another possibility, because I wanted to, that was to return to Barcelona," Alves explained in The Players Tribune, according to Diario AS.  "But...would that have made me a better person or better professional?   "What I wanted, and this was decisive for me, was stability to be able to compete for the 2022 World Cup. This is where the process of accepting the next challenge began.   "Most clubs have not proposed this because they do not believe in me, they believe I have an expiration date. But my expiration date is decided by me.   "None offered what I wanted, except the team of my dreams. Only Sao Paulo believed in me."
