Why Eto'o and Onana are not speaking 'revealed'

The president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) is reportedly not on speaking terms with goalkeeper Andre Onana, with the reason for their alleged feud having since been revealed.

Controversy has surrounded the Cameroon team since the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations began earlier this month.

There have been reports of internal fighting between the Eto'o and the nation's head coach Rigobert Song, though that was denied by FECAFOOT last week, with the organisation's secretary general insisting that it is all "fake news".

Onana has also been another divisive figure in the camp after the Manchester United star arrived late at AFCON, missing out on his country first-game of the tournament as a result.

This has made him an unpopular figure in some quarters, with African legends such as Emmanuel Adebayor having also remarked that the shot-stopper showed a lack of respect.

Chris Wheeler of the Daily Mail claimed that Onana and Eto'o have not spoken since the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where things between the two came to a head, which even led to the player being sent home during the global showpiece.

Wheeler wrote on X: "There doesn't appear to be any change in Andre Onana's feud with Cameroon FA president Samuel Eto'o.

"It's said they haven't spoken since the World Cup in Qatar, and their relationship is broken and irreconcilable.

"Onana could be back [at Manchester United] this week if Cameroon go out of AFCON on Tuesday."

Cameroon will take on The Gambia on Tuesday evening and a win is likely ensure them a place in the round of 16.
