Benni: UCL finalist Sancho told me his reasons for bust-up with Ten Hag

Benni McCarthy has revealed that UEFA Champions League finalist Jadon Sancho told him his reasons for not apologising to Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, which ultimately resulted in the winger joining Borussia Dortmund on loan.

One of the major story lines around Saturday's bug Champions League final is the fact that Sancho could win the tournament just six months after he spent four months not playing any football at the Red Devils.

The England international's widely publicised fallout with Ten Hag has split opinion among fans, with many seemingly ruing the player's departure given how influential he has been in Dortmund's sensational run to the final against Real Madrid.

McCarthy has now revealed what happened behind the scenes during the rift between Sancho and the Dutch tactician, with the South African revealing that Sancho explained to him why he refused to apologise.

"I spoke to the manager and I said to him that you know the delicacy," the United strikers coach told 947 radio station.

"I told him I think Jadon feels that if he apologises then he's going to be classed as someone who doesn't train hard, that doesn't work hard and that everything that was said against him was true.

"If you are from the streets, no one wants to apologise because then you're admitting you are not training well, you are lazy, everything you are accused of.

"Jadon wasn't going to have that. The manager just said that all he wants is an apology.

"I spoke to Jadon as a coach, as a mentor, as a friend, and as someone who grew up on the streets and knows the code.

"But Jadon just wasn't seeing it. He said, 'I ain't apologising because if I do, I'm apologising for being lazy, always being late, not giving my best. That's what I'm apologising for.' And those were his reasons."
