Man City secure commanding UCL win in Denmark

Manchester City grabbed a commanding 3-1 lead in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League last 16 tie against FC Copenhagen on Tuesday evening.

Kevin De Bruyne, Jack Grealish, Bernardo Silva replaced Matheus Nunez, Julian Alvarez, and Jeremy Doku whilst Manuel Akanji made way for Kyle Walker.

The holders needed just ten minutes to stamp the authority as De Bruyne moved to the area to connect with Phil Foden's reverse pass and stabbed past Kamil Grabara.

Grealish's evening ended very quickly after a knock from a challenge saw replaced for Doku, who slotted in on the left flank.

Copenhagen didn't lose hope and were rewarded after the half-hour mark when Mohamed Elyounoussi made the most of Ederson's error to see Magnus Mattsson dispatch first-time.

The Citizens went back in front though on the cusp of halftime after a loose ball from a heavy touch by De Bruyne indirectly fell to Silva, who needed no invitation.

Leipzig continued to trail and evidently conceded again in added time when a quick give-and-go involving De Bruyne saw Foden charge into the area to execute the return pass and ended the contest.

RB Leipzig 0-1 Real Madrid

Real Madrid claimed a narrow 1-0 win over RB Leipzig in the last 16 first-leg to move closer to the quarter-finals of the tournament.

The big team news for this tie were Madrid missing Jude Bellingham through injury as Brahim Diaz replaced him before Nacho Fernandez returned ahead of Lucas Vazque, with Vinicius Junior making his 50th appearance in this competition.

It was a worried start for the visitors after Benjamin Sesko had the ball in the net with a finish at the far post from a snap shot by Xaver Schlager, but fortunately enough it was called back and disallowed for offside.

With matters even at the break, Los Blancos were in the lead minutes inside the resumption after Diaz showed superb composure around the area and curled in the far corner.

Leipzig battled to reply and very nearly gave away a second goal in the latter stages when Vinicius' close-range effort from a one-on-one came off the post.

Los Blancos couldn't add a second goal as the match flew by, but nonetheless walked away with a crucial away win ahead of the return-leg.
