Barca sink Ukraine giants to remain perfect in UCL

FC Barcelona cemented top spot in their UEFA Champions League group  following a 2-1 win over Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday evening.

Youngster Marc Guiu, who scored the winner over Athletic Bilbao on Sunday, was named on the bench as exciting youngster Lamine Yamal returned to the fold.

With two wins from two matches in the group, Barca were keen to hit the ground running as Oriol Romeu's pass set Fermin Lopez in on target but he was denied by Dmytro Riznyk.

The Catalans broke clear minutes gone where a follow-up off the post by Fermin allowed Ferran Torres to finish the rebound, with the Video Assistant Review (VAR) over-ruling the original decision of an offside.

Fermin made up ground ten minutes to halftime when he dummied one challenge following a low pass and calmly applied a top corner finish.

Barca were keen to bag a third goal a minute into the second half from a smart header at the far post by Joao Felix, but Riznyk gathered quick feet to smother the Portuguese international.

The opportunities continued coming as a fierce shot from Torres put Riznyk in a spot of bother before Alejandro Balde came on to replace Marcos Alonso.

Shakhtar got one back to set up a nervy remaining quarter when Heorhiy Sudakov raced in behind after beating the offside trap and finished emphatically from close-range.

Fermin went close to restoring their two-goal cushion with a snap shot at the near post, but hit the post before he had a headed finish disallowed for offside.

The teen sensation was sacrificed ten minutes from time as Marc Casado entered with the Ukrainian giants desperate to salvage a point.

In the end, Barca wrapped up the win as well as the full complement of points to continued their perfect start in Group H.
