Haaland nets five to send Man City to UCL last 8

Erling Haaland stole the show by netting five goals for Manchester City, who progressed to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League with a 7-0 win over RB Leipzig.

The host made a single change from Saturday's win at Crystal Palace as Phil Foden made way Kevin De Bruyne, as Andre Silva started on the bench for Leipzig.

City were ahead over 20 minutes where Benjamin Henrichs' outstretched arm blocked a goal-bound header by Ruben Dias and after a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review, the referee awarded a penalty, which Haaland converted.

It was two a minute later after a fierce shot from range By De Bruyne bounced off the post and Haaland positioned perfectly to head in the rebound for his 30th goal in 25 Champions League games.

Haaland was in again and caused the Bundesliga outfit more worries with a first-time shot on the half-hour mark as he combined with a reverse pass on the edge of the area, but he had his effort parried.

Marco Rose's side fell further behind on the stroke of halftime as Haaland charged on a loose ball on the goal-line after Dias' header hit the upright and poked in to complete a first half hat-trick.

City continued to show dominance in the opening five minutes from halftime and bagged a fourth goal when Ilkay Gundogan sold one challenge on the edge of the area off a pass and drilled in the far corner.

Haaland turned up again minutes later when he bundled in his fourth of the evening with a snap-shot from a loose ball as Leipzig fumbled his initial header and Manuel Akanji's angled effort.

The Norwegian netted his fifth goal two minutes later as he charged on the end of another loose ball in the box from a corner and finished from point-blank range.

The Citizens manager Pep Guardiola opted for a couple changes minutes later, as Haaland was withdrawn for Julian Alvarez while Kalvin Phillips replaced Rodri Hernandez.

With the tempo balanced, City pulled further clear in the dying minutes after De Bruyne drilled a stupendous shot from the edge of the area in the top-corner as the host cruised into the quarter-finals.
