Real Madrid boost knockout hopes, Bayern run riot!

Atalanta 2-3 Real Madrid

Real Madrid revived their chances of at least reaching the knockout play-offs in the UEFA Champions League after edging Atalanta 3-2 at Gewiss Stadium.

Madrid were boosted by the return from injury of Vinicius Junior, who joined Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham and Brahim Diaz in attack.

Mbappe gave Los Blancos the lead inside the first ten minutes, with a composed finish in the box after he was picked out by Diaz and Charles De Ketelaere levelled matters for Atalanta on the stroke of half-time from the penalty spot.

Vinicius Junior restored the lead for Carlo Ancelotti's charges early in the second stanza with a strike in the box and Bellingham made it 3-1 for the visitors on the hour-mark from a moment of individual brilliance.

Ademola Lookman pulled a goal back for Atalanta midway into the second stanza with a cracking strike.

Shakhtar Donetsk 1-5 Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich won their third game in a row after hammering Shakhtar Donetsk 5-1 at Veltis Arena.

Bayern were still without the injured Harry Kane, as Thomas Muller led the line alongside Jamal Musiala and Leroy Sane.

Kevin gave Shakhtar an early lead with an unstoppable shot towards the bottom corner but Konrad Laimer quickly equalised for Bayern with a strike from a rebound in the box.

Muller sent The Bavarians ahead on the stroke of half-time with a close-range shot from cut-back by Musiala and Michael Olise gave the visitors a two-goal cushion with 20 minutes to go from the penalty spot.

Musiala secured the three points for Vincent Kompany's charges after making it 4-1 with three minutes remaining.

Olise added the final nail in added time for Bayern, as he also completed his brace.

RB Salzburg 0-3 Paris Saint-Germain

Paris Saint-Germain kept their hopes of reaching the play-offs alive after drubbing RB Salzburg 3-0 at Red Bull Arena.

PSG kept the front trio of Lee Kang-In, Goncalo Ramos and Bradley Barcola, as they were looking to bounce back from back-to-back defeats against Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich.

Ramos broke the deadlock for PSG on the half-hour mark with close-range effort after a headed pass by Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes doubled the lead for The Parisians with 18 minutes remaining.

Bayer Leverkusen 1-0 Inter Milan

Inter Milan lost for the first time after a last-gasp 1-0 defeat against Bayer Leverkusen at Bay Arena.

After the sides could not be separated in the first stanza, Nordi Mukiele made the difference in the last minute, after he scored the decisive goal for Bayer.

RB Leipzig 2-3 Aston Villa

Aston Villa boosted their chances of qualifying automatically to the round of 16 after edging RB Leipzig 3-2 at Red Bull Arena.

John McGinn gave Villa the lead within the first three minutes and Luis Openda levelled matters for RB Leipzig just before the half-hour mark.

Jhon Duran restored the lead for the English outfit early in the second stanza and The Villians thought they were 3-1 up after Duran found the back of the net moments later but the goal was disallowed by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for offside.

Openda eventually equalised for the German outfit just after the hour-mark and completed his brace.

Ross Barkley had the final say, after he snatched the winner for Unai Emery's troops with five minutes to go.
