Manchester City were denied a last 16 first-leg win in the UEFA Champions League as RB Leipzig rallied back for a 1-1 draw on Wednesday evening.
After the disappointing draw at Nottingham Forest, the Citizens re-called Nathan Ake, Manuel Akanji, Bernardo Silva and Riyad Mahrez as Kevin de Bruyne missed out through illness. For Leipzig, Timo Werner started for in the attack, with Christopher Nkunku named on the bench.
The Premier League giants laid down their intentions around the half-hour mark and saw Mahrez burst through the centre of defence and slot in the bottom-corner.
Leipzig were on the edge again shortly after going behind and very nearly conceded a second from a ball in by Rodri Hernandez, but Erling Haaland wasn't able to connect.
It was a lively opening to the second period for the host and had a telling attempt in the area from Andre Silva led goalkeeper Ederson Moraes produce a telling stop.
Leipzig continued pushing forward and were eventually rewarded when Ederson mis-judged the flight of a corner, which saw Josko Gvardiol head in at the back-post.
Both teams went all out for the winner late on in the match, but they had to settle for a stalemate ahead of the return-leg.
Inter Milan secured a late 1-0 win over Portuguese giants FC Porto in their last 16 first-leg clash at the San Siro Stadium.
Goalkeeper Andre Onana, Milan Skriniar, Hakan Calhanoglu and Lautaro Martinez returned from Inter's win over Udinese, with veteran and former Real Madrid defender Pepe captaining Porto.
Inter started strongly and were denied an early lead when Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa made a stupendous save from Calhanoglu's curling shot.
At the other end, a close-range block from Onana was needed to smother a fiery first-time shot from Mehdi Taremi before seeing the follow-up go wide.
The Italian champions carved out a clearer opening in the last minute of the half when Alessandro Bastoni's near post drew a tremendous save from Costa.
In a lively start to the second half, Inter nearly trailed and needed a superb triple from Onana to deny Tehdi and Galeno from profiting.
Porto finished the match with ten players after Otavio picked up a second yellow for a foul on Calhanoglu late in the second half.
With five minutes to go, the Nerazzurri made the breakthrough when substitute Romelu Lukaku pounced on a rebound off the post and slotted in from point-blank range.
