Patson Daka: Zambia wonderkid steps up after Erling Haaland exit at RB Salzburg

Erling Haaland has earned widespread plaudits, being tipped as the next superstar of world football but after his RB Salzburg departure, Zambia wonderkid Patson Daka has now made Europe stand up and take notice.

Daka, 21, was part of the rotational policy at the Austrian Bundesliga leaders and impressed when afforded opportunities but since the exit of Haaland to Borussia Dortmund in January, the Chipolopolo hitman has stepped in with great effect.

His third hattrick of the domestic season in their 6-0 win over TSV Hartberg this weekend was netted with just 61 minutes on the pitch as he continues to thrive within Jesse Marsch's ultra-attacking 4-2-4 formation.

It marked Daka's 21st league goal of the 2019/20 campaign in just his 14th start, while compatriot Enock Mwepu and Mali international Sekou Koita also found the net.

In 2017, Daka won the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, CAF Young Player of the Year, Zambia Sportsman of the Year and the UEFA Youth League and has since added to two domestic doubles with Salzburg.

However, his emergence as a senior figure in the team bodes well for the prospects of his long-term future, with Europe's elite monitoring his situation.

Daka made his international debut for Milutin Sredojevic's side as a 16-year-old and has since been capped 23 times at senior level with three goals to his name.
