Arsenal thrash Bodo to move top of UEL group

Arsenal returned to the top of Group A in the UEFA Europa League with a 3-0 victory over Bodo-Glimt on Thursday evening.

Only Granit Xhaka and Gabriel Martinelli survived from the Gunners' 3-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, with their top scorer Gabriel Jesus named on the bench.

The Gunners were dominant from the start and were ahead just after 20 minutes when Eddie Nketiah helped in a rebound off the post following Kieran Tierney's shot on the left of the area.

Bodo remained under pressure eight minutes later and gave away a second goal as a cross from Fabio Vieira saw Rob Holding pounce and head into the bottom-corner.

Mikel Arteta's side continued to have the lion share of chances after the half-hour mark and almost had a third when Xhaka's thumping free-kick forced a strong save from goalkeeper Nikita Khaikin.

Arsenal's dominant spell remained following halftime and they nearly added to their advantage through Xhaka's close-range shot from a cutback by Martinelli before Marquinhos headed the follow-up wide.

The Norwegian outfit started to come alive after a subdued spell and almost pulled one back courtesy of a snap shot in the area by Amahl Pellegrino, but goalkeeper Matt Turner pushed away.

Arteta decided to freshen up his stall towards the closing period, as Martin Odegaard replaced Xhaka before Jesus entered for Martinelli and Bukayo Saka slotted in for Marquinhos.

The Premier League leaders regained control in the last ten minutes and eventually got the third goal when smart play on the near side by Jesus set up Vieira, who thumped into the top corner to round off a good win.
