Man Utd cruise to Europa League quarter-finals

Manchester United defeated Real Betis 5-1 on aggregate to secure their spot in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League.

Young Facundo Pellestri were given his first outing by United, who brought Harry Maguire in as captain with Tyrell Malacia and Fred also re-called after Sunday's goalless draw against Southampton.

Betis threatened when a curling shot from 30-yards out by Juanmi cracked the outside of the upright and had goalkeeper David De Gea scrambling around the area.

An injury on defender Vinicius Abner cut short his outing inside 26 minutes and manager Manuel Pellegrini substituted the injured player to bring on Juan Miranda.

The boys from LaLiga cautioned the Red Devils again after the half-hour mark where a ball in-behind found Aitor Rubal to slot in from a tight angle, but De Gea rushed out and parried.

In light of Betis ascendancy, the Red Devils engineered a scare shortly towards halftime as Wout Weghorst's snap-volley from close-range hit the post following a scramble in the box.

Manchester got another clear chance seven minutes in the second half after a quick counter to the area ended with Marcus Rashford before he had his low shot courted by Rui Silva.

Rashford made amends after three minutes as he took a long diagonal pass from Carlos Casemiro in his stride and arrowed in the bottom-corner from way out.

That then was the forward's last after the manger Erik Ten Hag hauled him off two minutes later to bring on Jadon Sancho and also introduced Marcel Sabitzer ahead of Fred.

United could've increased their advantage towards the latter minutes with efforts from Sabitzer, Weghorst and Sancho, but neither capitalised.

The Red Devils continued to have the late momentum inside full-time and bagged a commanding aggregate victory for a quarter-final spot.
