Arsenal drew 2-2 with Sporting Lisbon in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League last 16 tie on Thursday night.
Reiss Nelson was handed a start for the Gunners after late winner last weekend, while there was a debut for January signing Jakub Kiwior in defence, with Gabriel Magalhaes dropping to the bench.
The hosts, meanwhile, recalled Jeremiah St Juste, Matehus Reis, Trincao, and Paulinho after the weekend's Primeira Liga action.
Sporting looked lively early on, but it was the gunners who broke the deadlock on 21 minutes when an un-marked William Saliba nodded home Fabio Vieria's corner.
Elven minutes later, the Portuguese giants were back on level terms as defender Gonçalo Inácio got on the end of Marcus Edwards' corner and nodded home from close range.
It was more of the same in the second half, with Mikel Arteta's charges close in the opening ten minutes through Gabriel Martinelli and a long range shot from Vieria that sailed just wide.
The lively start continued as the home side went in front in the 55th minute through Paulinho's close-range strike after goalkeeper Matt Turner could only parry Pedro Goncalves's shot.
The Gunners back on level terms seven minutes later when Granit Xhaka's attempted pass to Martinelli deflected off Hidemasa Morita and wrong-footed Adan.
Arteta freshened up his side soon after that, with Gabriel Magalhães, Thomas Partey and Emil Smith Rowe introduced with 20 minutes to go, while Sporting threw on Nuno Santos for Trincao.
Even with the flurry of changes, the Gunners found it tough to break down the Sporting defence and were restricted to efforts from distance, none of which threatened Adan in goals.
In the end, Sporting held out for a draw, leaving the sides with everything to play for at the Emirates Stadium next week.
