UEFA Europa League Semi-Final Wrap

Manchester United lost 3-2 to AS Roma in the UEFA Europa League semi-final second-leg, but still advanced to the final 8-5 over two-legs on Thursday evening.

Three new introductions from United saw Eric Bailly, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford enter from last week's commanding display in Manchester.

It was the Red Devils who broke the deadlock moments to halftime courtesy of a finish from Edinson Cavani, but Edin Dzeko pulled Roma level just after the break.

Former Atalanta playmaker Bryan Cristante handed the Romans the lead for the first time minutes following the equaliser, but Cavani grabbed a brace.

Roma would go on and have the final say on the contest in the closing stages as youngster Nicola Zalweski netted their third for the victory, but United still reigned victors over two-legs in Rome.

Arsenal were unable to overturn a first-leg deficit against Villarreal CF following a goalless draw in the semi-final second-leg at home on Thursday evening.

Mikel Arteta recalled goalkeeper Bernd Leno, Rob Holding, Pablo Mari, Thomas Partey, Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe and Nicolas Pepe from the win over Newcastle United in the Premier League.

Arsenal missed two glorious chances in the first half in a quiet opening on all fronts, as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang struck the post before seeing an effort cleared off the line.

The Yellow Submarines battled to hold ground in the latter stages of the match, with the Gunners on the hunt though Pepe and Smith Rowe in particular couldn't profit.

In the end, the LaLiga outfit went on to book a spot in the final of the Europa League against the Gunners' English counterparts Manchester United on May 26 in Gdansk.
