UEFA Europa League Wrap

Barcelona and Galatasaray could not be separated in their UEFA Europa League round of 16 first-leg tie at Camp Nou on Thursday night.

The biggest chance fell to Galatasaray striker Bafetimbi Gomis after finding the back of the net three minutes later but his goal was chalked off by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for offside.

The two sides will have it all to play for in the second leg in seven days time.

Six-time UEFA Europa League champions Sevilla got a slight advantage from last 16 first-leg tie after edging West Ham United 1-0 at Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Following a goalless first stanza, Munir El Haddadi scored the decisive goal for Sevilla on the hour-mark with a volleyed strike at the back post from a free-kick.

Atalanta edged Bayer Leverkusen 3-2 courtesy of a brace by Luis Muriel in the round of 16 first-leg clash at Gewiss Stadium.

Charles Aranguiz gave Bayer an early lead but Ruslan Malinovskyi levelled matters for Atalanta in the 23rd minute, after which Muriel netted a brace, with a goal in either half to make it 3-1 for the Italian side.

Moussa Diaby reduced the deficit to 3-2 for the visitors just after the hour-mark to keep the German side in the tie.

Rangers have one foot in the quarter-finals after thrashing Red Star Belgrade 3-0 in the last 16 first-leg at Ibrox Stadium.

Aleksandar Katai had an early goal for Red Star disallowed by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for offside before James Tavernier eventually got the opener for Rangers in the 11th minute.

Katai had another goal for the Serbian side chalked off by the VAR two minutes later and Alfredo Morelos doubled the lead for the Gers in the 15th minute.

Katai had a chance to pull a goal back for Red Star from the penalty spot in the 24th minute but his penalty was saved by goalkeeper Allan McGregor.

Leon Balogun eventually put the game to bed for Giovanni van Bronckhorst early in the second stanza.

Sporting Braga increased their chances of reaching the quarter-finals after beating Monaco 2-0 in the last 16 first-leg clash at Estadio Municipal de Braga.

Abel Ruiz gave Braga an early lead and Wissam Ben Yedder had a goal for Monaco disallowed by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) 11 minutes before the half-time break for offside.

Vitor Oliveira sealed the deal for Braga in the last minute.

RB Leipzig and Spartak Moscow's last 16 ties were called off after UEFA suspended the Russian national and club sides from all competitions due to their invasion of neighbouring Ukraine.

Leipzig, as a result, were handed a walkover result over two legs and qualified for the quarter-finals.
