An emotional Cristiano Ronaldo made a big announcement following Portugal's dramatic round of 16 victory at the 2024 UEFA European Championship on Monday night.
The 39-year-old, who experienced a variety of emotions during his side's penalty-shootout win over Slovenia, has announced that this will be the last time he participates in the tournament.

The Al Nassr star was in tears during the first half of extra-time after his penalty that could very well have secured his side the victory by the end of the 120 minutes was saved by Atletico Madrid keeper Jan Oblak.
However, with the scoreline at 0-0, he managed to pull himself back together when matters had to be decided in a shootout.
The former Real Madrid star stepped up to take the first penalty for A Selecao and, with his earlier miss perhaps still on his mind, converted the opportunity to give his nation the upper hand.

After converting from the spot, the attacker was seen lifting his hands up in apology to Portuguese fans behind the goal.
Goalkeeper Diogo Costa would go on to prove an inspirational figure, though, allowing nothing to get past him as Portugal emerged 3-0 victors fromt he shootout.
Following the dramatic nature of his side's victory, Ronaldo explained that he was sorry for the supporters, but also expressed a strong sense of determination as he revealed that this will be his last EUROs.
"It's more important to enjoy it. The team did an extraordinary job and we fought until the end... the whole team is to be congratulated, especially our goalkeeper," he said, per Optus Sport.
"This will be my last EURO, of course, but I'm not moved by this, I'm moved by enthusiasm.
"I was sorry for the fans. I'll always give my best for the shirt, whether I miss or not, and I'll do this my whole life. You have to take responsibility."
The Portugal captain also explained his decision to step up first in the shootout after the disappointment he suffered from the spot earlier in the game.
"As you saw, I missed the penalty, but I also wanted to be the first to score [in the shootout], you have to take responsibility for the team.
"You can't be afraid, I've never been afraid to face things head on. Sometimes I get it right, sometimes I don't get it right, but giving up is something you'll never hear from my name."

Portugal will now turn their attention to the quarter-finalsm where they will face the challenge of Kylian Mbappe and his French side on Friday.
