Defending champions Italy secured a late 1-1 draw with Croatia to advance to the 2024 European Championship last 16 on Monday evening.
Federico Chiesa, Gianluca Scamacca, Davide Frattesi were dropped for Mateo Retegui, Matteo Darmian and Giacomo Raspadori by Luciano Spalletti after the disappointment against Spain, while Josip Stanisic, Marin Pongracic, Ivan Perisic and Josip Juranovic slotted back in for the Croats.
It was the Vatreni that looked to settle the quickest barely five minutes in where Luka Sucic came in towards the area after coming in-field, but Gianluigi Donnarumma made a blinder of a save.
Spalletti's men quickly bounced back from the rather in-different start and went close to themselves off a thumping header by Alessandro Bastoni, but Dominik Livakovic repelled him.
Following a score-less first spell, the Vatreni got the breakthrough through after a hand-ball by Darmian resulted in a pitch-side review which in-turn saw a penalty awarded
Veteran Luka Modric failed to beat Donnarumma, but he did manage to find the back of the net a minute later as the Azzurri were unable to clear their lines properly.
As the Vatreni threatened victory, heart-break followed when Mattia Zaccagni calmly picked out the far corner to rescue the Azzurri with the last kick of the game.
In the end, the point were enough to see the defending champions march onto the last 16 with the Vatreni sadly eliminated after failing to win any match in Group B.

Albania 0-1 Spain
Spain claimed top spot of Group B and finished with a hundred percent record following a 1-0 win over Albania in Dusseldorf.
Former Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte was the sole survivor from La Roja's win over Italy before Kristjan Asllani and Berat Djimsiti picked out Albania's starting stall.
It didn't need the two-time champions long to hit the brakes, as a first-time pass in the wide channels by Dani Olmo released an unmarked Ferran Torres to go clear and tucked in off the far post.
Inter Milan midfielder Asllani was a whisker away to restore parity minutes after seeing them go behind, but Arsenal shot-stopper David Raya stood head and shoulders to deny him.
La Roja were eager to add another to thus make matters comfortable, but Real Madrid forward Joselu in particular couldn't turn in and pounce.
However, missed opportunities of that nature didn't prove any problem whatsoever as La Roja claimed the slender win regardless to claim top spot of Group B.
