England left frustrated by Denmark at Euros

England were unable to secure early passage to the last 16 of the 2024 European Championship after a 1-1 draw with Denmark on Thursday evening.

No new faces came in for England from the win over Serbia, with Joakim Maehle in for Alexander Bah on the side of the Danish who were held to a 1-1 draw against Slovenia on Sunday.

It needed the opening-quarter hour of play for the deadlock to come as the Three Lions pounced after influential skipper Harry Kane applied a short run-up to the area for an easy side-foot finish.

As the tempo remained high, a second looked on the cards for the 2020 runners-up when Bukayo Saka sneaked in at the far post to meet a floated supply but slammed the side-netting.

The Danes steadily grew amidst trailing and a battle for possession around the area led to a pass for Morten Hjulmand to urge forth before blasting in off the post to level matters.

A substitution were made five minutes past halftime from the Three Lions who introduced Conor Gallagher in place of Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold.

It ignited a sense of urgency two minutes apart and saw Phil Foden come in towards the near post of the area to get a shot, but he unfortunately battered the post.

Brentford midfielder Mikkel Damsgaard seek to bring the Danes alive from a lofted shot following a high ball to the far post, but Jordan Pickford picked up comfortably.

Not too much in so far as chances were shown by either side ahead of the final whistle – though forays to the attacking third and from all angles continued.

The match didn't yield more goals let alone a winner and ultimately saw matters conclude level pegging, as the Three Lions missed the chance to progress to the last 16.
