Bellingham gives England winning start at EUROs

England enjoyed a winning start to the 2024 European Championship after securing a 1-0 win over Serbia on Sunday evening.

The big guns were unleashed by the Three Lions in as Bukayo Saka came in ahead of Cole Palmer, while Gareth Southgate opted to start Trent Alexander-Arnold in midfield.

Bellingham's fantastic season continued after meeting a perfectly placed cross in the 13th minute from Saka to head in the top corner.

Veteran Aleksandar Mitrovic aimed to restore parity seven minutes apart through a first-time strike from a tight angle following a layoff, but he slammed the side-netting.

The Three Lions still enjoyed the momentum and could've made it two when Kyle Walker burst through from the right-side before firing across the far post.

Dejan Stankovic were called to a substitution a minute to halftime as Filip Kostic limped off the park and saw Filip Mladenovic come on.

Serbia didn't drop deep but remained courageous and fancied a comeback, but the Three Lions were able to hold tight in order to preserve the narrow deficit.

Gareth Southgate's men battled to stay in ascendancy a little in the contest, with Serbia continuing to up the intensity in search of a comeback.

Former Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic fluffed a good chance to even matters later on through an outstretched attempt in the area, but Pickford palmed to safety.

England shrugged off the slow spell and should've added a second with a flying header at the back-post by Harry Kane, but Predrag Rajkovic tipped onto the crossbar.

The danger signs from the Serbs didn't stop as Dusan Vlahovic managed a cutback outside the area and produced a one-hand palm from Pickford.

In the end, Southgate's men managed to stay clear and picked up the maximum points to get their tournament off to a flying start.
