Spain started the 2024 European Championship journey in style after defeating Croatia 3-0 on Saturday evening.
FC Barcelona's 16-year-old Lamine Yamal debuted for La Roja and became the youngest-ever to feature at the tournament, with the Vatreni unchanged from the friendly win at Portugal.
The two-time champions intended a perfect start after Alvaro Morata came short to the area to bring goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic to a save.
Morata proved decisive on the half-hour mark when he pierced through the defence after beating the offside trap and raced forward for a comfortable finish.
As the Vatreni attempted an instant response, La Roja bagged another as Fabian Ruiz tossed and turned in the heart of the penalty area and finished emphatically.
Croatia yet again aimed to hit back instantly where a rushed goal-mouth scramble inadvertently brought Lovro Majer on stroke who though battered the side-netting.
La Roja continued the scoring feast a minute to halftime and saw Dani Carvajal latched onto a curling cross from the right by Lamal to stab in the near post.
The host weren't keen to drop deep but looked to extend the lead further minutes in the second period and forced Livakovic to go down and parry Yamal's curling strike left of the area.
Croatia remained frustrated as a point-blank save from Unai Simon repelled Josip Stanisic's first-time shot before a scramble forced La Roja to clear for a corner-kick.
Substitutions by La Roja were enforced ahead of the midway point of the half as Barcelona midfielder Pedri made way for Dani Olmo.
Drama came late on when Rodri conceded a penalty for bringing down Bruno Petkovic who finished the spot-kick on the rebound after Simon had saved but an encroachment saw the goal disallowed.
The contest remained in favour of the Spanish, with the Vatreni battling to come to grips and 3-0 it finished in Berlin.
