England reach back-to-back EURO finals

England advanced to the final of the 2024 European Championship with a 2-1 victory over the Netherlands on Wednesday evening.

Netherlands dropped Steven Bergwijn who made way for Donyell Malen, while the Three Lions relegated Ezri Konsa to the bench to give Marc Guehi a starting berth.

The Oranje needed all but seven minutes to hit the front as Xavi Simons applied a surging run from deep after seizing possession and rifled one into the top corner.

England hit back ten minutes later where captain Harry Kane drew a foul on Denzel Dumfries to win a penalty after a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review and duly stepped up to fire amidst pitch-side intervention.

Gareth Southgate's men were keen to take control in quick succession as the exciting Phil Foden skipped through a number of challenges to get goal-side only to be courted by Dumfries.

At the other end, a set-back of sorts forced Oranje to a substitution ten minutes ahead of halftime where Joey Veerman came on for the injured Memphis Depay.

There were minimal chances in the opening stages of the second period though a lot of possession turnovers followed as either side looked to grab a hold of proceedings.

Veerman didn't waste time getting stuck in but delivered a pin-point ball to the far post for Virgil Van Dijk to go on the half-volley, but Jordan Pickford responded with a fine save.

Southgate's charges though had the final say in added time when Cole Palmer did well to feed a well-weighted pass through to Ollie Watkins,  made no mistake with a lovely finish into the far corner.

In the end, the Three Lions marched onto the final to face Spain who overcame France in the semi-final on Tuesday.
