Mbappe to be banned from wearing mask after broken nose?

After being seen in training with a mask on Thursday after breaking his nose, Kylian Mbappe could reportedly be banned from donning it at the 2024 UEFA European Championship.

The France captain was forced off the pitch during his side's 1-0 victory over Austria on Monday after an aerial duel that resulted in his nose bleeding profusely.

The French Football Federation (FFF) later confirmed he had suffered a broken nose, and that he would not be undergoing surgery as the side sought alternative ways to facilitate a swift return to action.

Despite fears that he could miss the rest of the tournament through injury, it was also announced that the newly-signed Real Madrid star would be wearing a mask if he were to feature again.

As such, it has been suggested that the attacker could feature when Les Bleus take on the Netherlands on Friday night, especially after he was spotted in training over the course of this week.

During a session on Thursday, he could be seen wearing a mask with the colours of the French national flag, leading many to believe he will be wearing it in Les Bleus' next match.

However, according to the Daily Mail, who have cited Article 42 of UEFA's regulations, Mbappe may not be allowed to wear that mask as the stipulation states: "Medical equipment worn on the playing field must be of a single colour and must not allow the team or manufacturer to be identified".

Reports have since suggested that the forward has received other choices of masks, but the FFF are yet to approve any.

It is believed they will do so prior to the fixture against the Dutch, with it claimed the 25-year-old's availability for that encounter will be determined closer to kick-off, which is 21:00 (SA time).
