OFFICIAL: EURO 2024 side charged by UEFA

A 2024 UEFA European Championship side has now officially been charged by UEFA. 

Following their 1-0 defeat to England on Sunday, in what was both sides' first match of the tournament in Germany, Serbia have been hit with disciplinary charges for their supporters' actions during the encounter.

This comes after fans in attendance put a national flag on display that included the territory of its former republic Kosovo, according to AP News.

Members of the Football Federation of Kosovo are understood to have taken the matter to UEFA, citing political, chauvinistic and racist messages against their country through the use of flags, chants and banners.

As such, the controlling body for European football has released a statement in which they confirmed action will be taken against Serbia.  

"Disciplinary proceedings have been instigated in accordance with Article 55 of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations (DR) following the UEFA European Championship group stage match between Serbia and England (0-1) played on 16 June 2024 in Gelsenkirchen, Germany," it read. 

The nation has been charged for "throwing of objects" and "transmitting a provocative message unfit for a sports event".

it went on to add that an ethics and disciplinary inspector "will conduct a disciplinary investigation regarding alleged discriminatory behaviour".

On the pitch, the Eagles will be looking to bounce back from their defeat at the hands of the Three Lions when they take on Slovenia in a Group C encounter on Thursday.
