41yo Pepe earns special praise after Euros showing

Portugal coach Roberto Martinez has reserved some special praise for 41-year-old defender Pepe after the team's 3-0 win over Turkey.

Martinez's side booked their spot in the round of 16 and secured top spot in Group F with the big win on Saturday evening.

During the the team's first match against the Czech Republic, Pepe became the oldest player to feature in a European Championship clash at the against of 41.

The Portugal coach had nothing praise for the former Real Madrid defender, who has been star for the team in the opening two games.

"If there was a neutral guy watching the game and he saw Pepe playing he would never believe he is 41 years old," Martinez said, as per Yahoo.

"He is an example, a professional, the way he reads the game, the way he competes.

"He uses the 24 hours to be a professional footballer.

"We all know players who maybe only spend two hours a day preparing themselves. The rest of the time they live life normally and expect one day to retire.

"Pepe doesn't do that. He uses 24 hours to get himself recovered. When he is not recovering he makes sure he has the right sleep patterns.

"Everything is down to the detail and the focus is to play for another year. Then it is just that love for the game, focusing on knowing the opposition, knowing tactical aspects."
