Cristiano Ronaldo: Portugal superstar breaks world-record scoring feat in UEFA Nations League semi-final win

Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo broke a world-record previously held by Ghana icon Gyan Asamoah after leading his country to the UEFA Nations League final with his 53rd career hat-trick.

Ronaldo, 34, produced another masterclass display for the European champions on Wednesday evening as he netted all three goals in the 3-1 win over Switzerland at the Estadio de Dragao.

Within his man of the match display he took his overall international tally to 88 goals in 157 caps but the more remarkable feat on the day was his record of surpassing Ghana record-goal scorer Gyan.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner became the first footballer to score in 10 major international tournaments with his efforts dating back to Euro 2004.

Since then, he's scored at four World Cups, three more Euro tournaments, the Confederation Cup and now the Nations League.

A Seleção das Quinas will meet either England or the Netherlands in the final of the Nations League on June 9.
