Ronaldo nets twice as Portugal punish Poland

Portugal 5-1 Poland

Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice to help Portugal secure a 5-1 victory over Poland and top spot in Group 1 on Friday night.

Talisman Cristiano Ronaldo lined-up in attack alongside Bruno Fernandes, Rafael Leao and Pedro Neto as the Poles missed star striker Robert Lewandowski.

No openings showed in the first half before Leao got the ball rolling at the resumption leaving Ronaldo to make it two from the penalty spot a while later.

A goal frenzy in the final ten minutes saw Fernandes, Neto put the host further ahead with Ronaldo on strike again to complete his brace.

The Poles got a consolation two minutes to the end with a stern finish from Dominik Marczuk, but the joy belonged to the A Selecao.

Denmark 1-2 Spain

Spain clinched top spot in Group 4 in the UEFA Nations League with a 2-1 win over Denmark on Friday evening.

In-form Alvaro Morata started from the bench with Ayoze Perez preferred and Dani Olmo, Mikel Oyarzabal in-behind, while Rasmus Hojlund and Christian Eriksen spear-headed the Danes attack.

La Roja were in the lead minutes after the start when a ball in from Perez met Oyarzabal who needed no second invitation and executed smartly.

The European champions extended the lead shortly in the second half when Perez reversed roles to meet Olmo's delivery for a decent finish.

Denmark showed a lot of fight in the closing stages with Gustav Isaksen on hand to reduce the deficit, but the victory belonged to La Roja.

Scotland 1-0 Croatia

Croatia suffered a late 1-0 loss to Scotland in their group stage encounter in the tournament.

A rare goalkeeping alteration from the Croats saw Dominik Kotarsi fill in the absence of Dominik Livakovic, with veteran Luka Modric included from the off and hogging the middle.

Croatia's evening turned sour over three minutes before the break after Petar Sucic received his marching orders for poor tackling amongst others.

Aston Villa striker John McGinn managed to separate the outfits with a solid finish in the closing stages after the Vatreni were caught napping.

Switzerland 1-1 Serbia

Switzerland and Serbia couldn't be separated and played to a 1-1 draw in the other match-up in League A Group 4.

Former Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic got a chance to put the visitors ahead from the penalty spot minutes after halftime, but unfortunately failed to capitalise.

Switzerland, though, didn't let it go unpunished and grabbed the front-foot when Zeki Amdouni combined with Remo Freuler's delivery to find target.

The Serbs hit back two minutes before time when Aleksa Terzic showed the presence of mind right in the six-yard area and dispatched a layoff from Dusan Vlahovic.
