UEFA Nations League match report Germany v Spain

Die Mannschaft were without players who reached the latter stages of the UEFA Champions League from Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig, with Timo Werner leading the front-line alongside Julian Draxler and Leroy Sane in the final third.

La Roja did not have many absentees, with new Leeds United forward Rodrigo Moreno flanked by Jesus Navas and Ferran Torres on either side upfront while goalkeeper David De Gea returned in goals in place of Kepa.

Spain were nearly gifted the opener in the 13th minute after Emre Can looped a back pass that was intercepted by Moreno, who went went past goalkeeper Kevin Trapp, clear on goal but he hesitated to take a shot and Trapp recovered the ball.

Luis Enrique's charges were the most dangerous side, pinning back Die Mannschaft in their own half and had chances through Sergio Busquets midway into the first stanza and Moreno on the stroke of half-time but Trapp made good saves to keep the score level going to the break.

Germany had a bright start in the second stanza as Werner broke the deadlock six minutes from the break after evading challenges inside the box to fire a low strike past the flat-footed De Gea.

La Roja were unable to find the spaces in attack they had in the first stanza while Niklas Sule almost doubled the lead for Joachim Low's charges in the last 13 minutes with a header from Toni Kroos' cross but Dea Gea parried his effort over the bar.

Kroos came close again to assisting the second goal for Germany with an inviting corner three minutes before time but Antonio Rudiger's header in the centre of the six-yard box sailed over the bar, with the net gaping.

Anssumane Fati thought he had netted the equaliser for Spain in the last minute with a header that found the back of the net at the back post but the goal was disallowed for a foul by Sergio Ramos.

Jose Gaya eventually levelled matters for La Roja in their last attack deep in stoppage time with a strike inside the six-yard box to ensure his side walked away with the share of the spoils.
