A 2022 FIFA World Cup manager confirmed his sacking after his side were knocked out of the group stage on Wednesday night.
Following their 2-1 win over Saudi Arabia, Mexico boss Gerardo Martino announced that he would no longer serve in his role for team after the North American side bowed out of the tournament on goal difference, despite winning their final group C fixture.

This is the first time the CONCACAF nation was knocked out of the tournament at the group stage since 1978, having made it to the knockout phase in their previous eight appearances at the competition.
Having been appointed by the Tricolor in 2019, Martino revealed that his journey with the side had come to a bitter end soon after the final whistle blew on their 2-1 victory over the Saudis.
"I am responsible for today's result," Martino said in a post-match press conference, according to the Daily Mail.
"My contract ended as soon as the referee blew the final whistle and there is nothing more to be done.

"We outplayed the opponent and created more chances, and we could have scored as many goals as needed.
"That is why we went for the third goal and we added two center-forwards together. We knew that Poland had fewer yellows and we were going out, so it was necessary in that moment.
"But we failed and I don't think we were knocked out in the previous matches, rather today. I think we should analyse this more thoroughly when we have a clear mind.
"This is the reality. We are in a position of fragility because we are out of the World Cup."

It is understood that Martino was already unpopular with fans and the Mexican FA before the tournament kicked off, with there having been reports that he was ready to leave his post regardless of how far the team went in the tournament.
The 60-year-old leaves the role having won the 2018/19 Gold Cup in his 66 games in charge of El Tri.
