Riveiro explains Makhubela's absence

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has provided an update on the notable absence of one of the club's most skillful midfielders.

The Buccaneers are putting in the final preparations to take on Golden Arrows on Tuesday evening at the Princess Magogo Stadium and ahead of the encounter, Jose Riveiro has provided an update on Ntsako Makhubela, who has been a notable absentee in the Pirates squad this season.

Makhubela is yet to make a single appearance for the Buccaneers this season and has also been linked with a move away from Orlando Pirates after reportedly becoming disillusioned with life at Mayfair.

However, his coach Jose Riveiro sings a different tune.

"About Neverdie [Makhubela], well we can take only 20 players to the list, 11 to the starting 11[team] and five substitutions. That's the math," the Spaniard said.

"So we cannot take everyone. I try to take the ones that we feel, or I feel, are going to help us to win the game, I've explained this many times.

"So yes, that's the reason. There's no there's another reason."

Having come through the Buccaneers' development ranks and made a name for himself at Golden Arrows, Makhubela re-joined Orlando Pirates at the start of last season as one of the country's most entertaining footballers.

However, in his first season he made just 16 appearances across all competitions for the Buccaneers, only starting nine of those matches.
