Man City move top thanks to magical De Bruyne

Manchester City defeated Leicester City 1-0 to move top of the Premier League table on Saturday afternoon.

Man City were without Erling Haaland due to a foot injury as Julian Alvarez got the nod to lead the attack alongside recalls for IIkay Gundogan and John Stones.

Leicester, meanwhile, were boosted by the return of centre-back Caglar Soyuncu, who made his first start of the season and Jamie Vardy was alsl brought back.

The Citizens dictated terms from the word go and after a sustained pressure, Bernardo Silva came close to giving them the lead on 16 minutes with a low volley at the back post that was brilliantly saved by goalkeeper Danny Ward from a cut-back back Kevin De Bruyne.

After weathering the storm, the Foxes had a rare chance on 23 minutes after Harvey Barnes went through on goal but his low drive at the near post drew a reflex save from goalkeeper Ederson after a through ball by Vardy.

Pep Guardiola's charges regained their attacking momentum after that, as they pinned Leicester in their own half but could not open up the hosts' deep lying defence, as the sides went to the break deadlocked.

City had a quick start in the second stanza as De Bruyne Bruyne eventually broke the deadlock four minutes in with a sumptuous free-kick that looped over the wall and went in off the top corner.

Brendan Rodgers' charges had an immediate response and were unfortunate not to level matters four minutes later after Ederson tipped Youri Tielemans' volley into the crossbar and out of goal.

Leicester had more resistance to Man City's attacks, as they also looked to connect quickly going forward and with 18 minutes left, Rodgers made a tactical change to add numbers in attack, as Patson Daka replaced Soyuncu.

With the game on the edge, Guardiola introduced Phil Foden in place of Alvarez in a change of shape going forward.

Leicester had the attacking momentum in the dying minutes and threatened to rescue a point but were not clinical in front of goal, as the Citizens held on and leapfrogged Arsenal at the top of the table by one point.
