Chelsea star rejects 'disrespectful' contract offer

A Chelsea star has reportedly turned down a new contract offer from the club as he feels the Blues are not showing enough respect with the wages.

Goalkeeper Edouard Mendy joined the Blues in January 2021 and quickly established himself as the club's first choice goalkeeper by helping the club win the UEFA Champions League.

Mendy, however, is not the highest-paid goalkeeper at the club as Spaniard Kepa Arrizabalaga reportedly earns twice as much as his teammate, who picks up a reported  £100,000 a week.

The Sun have now reported that Mendy has rejected the Blues' latest six-year contract offer as he feels he is not being shown respect after all his achievements with the club.

"Edouard is back at Chelsea and he is ready to play," An insider to the Sun.

"But there is a feeling that the contract situation is just going nowhere.

"Edouard has won some huge trophies for Chelsea — but there is a sense that he is not being shown enough respect by the club over a new deal."

The report also adds that the Blues have since withdrawn their initial offer as there is now a stand-off between the two parties over a new long-term contract.

In the meantime, Mendy will be hoping to return to Graham Potter's side for Tuesday's Premier League encounter against Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge.
