Pitso recruits African star as Al Ahli Saudi eye second spot

Pitso Mosimane's Al Ahli Saudi side are eyeing second position in the Saudi First Division League after recruiting a highly-regarded African star in an incredible promotion push.

Al Ahli - who occupy sixth position - host second-placed Al Hazm in a league clash on Wednesday at the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium in Jeddah with a win seeing Mosimane's side leapfrogging their opponents into second.

Al Ahli will move into the runners-up spot provided fourth-placed Al Akhdoud do not take all three points away at Najran.

Al Ahli have played a game less than all their promotion-chasing rivals and are five points behind leaders Al Faisaly who they beat in an away fixture over the weekend.

Mosimane will take charge of his latest match after welcoming Gambian forward Modou Barrow on Monday in a move that will widen options in the attacking third.

Barrow is a nomadic footballer whose career has taken him from Sweden through to the English Premier League before spending time in Turkey and South Korea.

He has similar qualities to Thembinkosi Lorch who was linked with a move to Al Ahli in recent weeks.

The full value of the points available on Wednesday comes in that it will not only take them into the promotion places but bring them within two points of leaders Al Faisaly just before the halfway of the campaign.

Mosimane remains unbeaten in Saudi Arabia since taking over 10 games ago and is moving along without defeat the same way he did when he started his previous job at Egyptian heavyweights Al Ahly.

He has won five and drawn five since arriving in September.

Priority with Al Ahli is a top four finish which will secure the ticket back to the Saudi Pro League where Cristiano Ronaldo is now playing at Al Nassr.
