African star left out of Chelsea's UCL squad

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and another January signing have been left out of Chelsea' squad for the UEFA Champions League.

The Blues made a total of eight signings in the January transfer window without offloading any senior players in the process.

As a result, there were always going to be some big exclusions for the knockout stage of the competition, where the Blues will face Borussia Dortmund in the round of 16.

Aubameyang was the biggest name omitted from the squad despite playing in the group stages, where he managed to score two goals in six matches.

Meanwhile, new signing Benoit Badiashile has also been left out of the squad after joining the club from AS Monaco in a deal reportedly worth £35million.

Big-money signings  Enzo Fernandez, Mykhailo Mudryk and Joao Felix have all been included in Graham Potter's squad.

With the vast amount of players in the squad, Potter has revealed there will be some awkward conversations about places in the teams.

"There will be awkward questions and conversations as that's where we are because only XI can play and certain numbers can be in squads," Potter said, as per Sky Sports.

"So it's about being honest, open, respectful and as transparent as you can. We have to create an environment where you respect players want to play and respect players want to compete and help the team."
