Zwane opens up on Chiefs' failed transfer moves

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has admitted that the club tried and failed to bring in more signings in the January transfer window.

Amakhosi have been hard-hit by injuries this season, forcing Zwane to chiefs alter his starting eleven. The consequence has been fluctuating results, with Chiefs managing to string together three consecutive Premiership wins just once this season.

Further, Amakhosi made just two signings in the January transfer window, bringing in Congolese striker Christian Basomboli and SuperSport United's Thatayaone Ditlhokwe - who can only join Amakhosi at the end of the season.

Chiefs' current injury list includes Nkosingphile Ngoco, Khama Billiat, Eric Mathoho, Reeve Frosler, Dillan Solomons and most recently Caleb Bimenyimana among others.

Asked if the club's injury list had brought up any regrets over not signing more players during the window, Zwane admitted that Chiefs had tried but failed to secure several of their targets.

"Yes, actually we were just unfortunate [in the transfer market]. We were trying to bring in a few players but it did not materialise. so we had to move on and focus on what we have in terms of playing personnel," conceded Zwane.

"Injuries' are always going to be there because football is a contact sport, but in wouldn't want to dwell on the past, on what we could have done, what we did not do."

Chiefs saw a late transfer deadline day bid for Cape Town City's Mduduzi Mdantsane turned down by the Citizens while a pursuit to find a replacement for Njabulo Blom also yielded no fruits.

"The focus now is on the next game and the remaining games of the season," marshalled Zwane.

Amakhosi turn their attention to the Nedbank Cup where they face Maritzburg United on Friday in a round of 32 fixture.
