Zwane opens up on Sithebe's struggles at Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has shed some light on midfielder Siyethemba Sithebe's initial struggles at Amakhosi.

Amakhosi advanced to the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup with a 2-0 win over Maritzburg United at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday, courtesy of goals from Ashely Du Preez and Christian Saile.

Sithebe made his third consecutive start for Chiefs after impressing as a second half substitute against Mamelodi Sundowns and justifying a starting place against Royal AM and TS Galaxy week later.

Before the Sundowns clash, Sithebe had featured in just four of Amakhosi's 10 Premiership fixtures

"We knew he [Sithebe] would struggle a little bit because this is football, and it's not only him, there are many other players [in the team], playing hot and cold.

"What has also been affecting us are injuries, in terms of getting the combinations right so that everyone settles in quickly. Unfortunately, we are forced to chop and change the team."

Phathushedzo Nange also made his long-awaited return to action, replacing Yusuf Maart as the game extended to Extra time.

Chiefs are still without Nkosingiphile Ngcobo while a late transfer bid for Cape Town City's Mduduzi Mdantsane was turned down signals that Amakhosi are still looking to bolster their midfield options.

Amakhosi will host Golden Arrows on Saturday at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
