Nigeria star smashes Messi-Ronaldo record

Napoli and Nigeria superstar Victor Osimhen surpassed a feat achieved by both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi when he netted his 100th career goal on the weekend.

In a rich vein of form, the Super Eagle scored once again during his side's 2-0 win over Sassuolo, taking his tally for the season to 19 goals in 23 games across all competitions this season.

As such, the 24-year old has now reached a new career milestone, having scored a century of goals in just 197 appearances for club and country.

Not only that, but the former Lille marksman reached this figure 13 games quicker than Messi and a whopping 104 matches faster than Ronaldo did.

His record also surpassed that of AC Milan star Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Chelsea legend Didier Drogba, who reached their century of strikes after 245 and 236 outings, respectively.

he is not the outright holder of the record, though. Two players have achieved the feat even quicker than he did: Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe and Manchester City star Erling Haaland, who did so in 180 and 142 games, respectively.

Osimhen began his career in Europe with Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg in 2017, who signed him off the back of an impressive U17 FIFA World Cup display that saw the goal-poacher win the tournament's Golden Boot and the competition itself.

He had spells at Belgian side Charleroi and Lille before joining Gli Azzurri for a record €75 million (R1.4 billion) in 2020, a transfer that made him the most expensive African player of all time.
