Makhaula: 'I was planning on retiring at AmaZulu'

Midfielder Makhehlene Makhaula reveals his initial plan was to end his career at AmaZulu before a shock transfer to Orlando Pirates.

Makhaula joined Pirates on a two-year deal on deadline day of the January transfer window.

The 33-year-old midfielder could make his first appearance in a Soweto derby this Saturday at FNB Stadium.

"I couldn't sleep. You can't sleep when you hear you will be playing for a big club like this. I couldn't sleep," Makhaula said.

"Even calls came flooding in, and I had to switch off my phone. A lot of people were happy for me, especially my family and friends who have always supported me.

"I was planning to retire at AmaZulu because when you look at my age, it's close to retirement.

"But when Pirates came, I couldn't resist or look back.

"I had to grab it with both hands because it's all footballers' dream to play for one of the biggest clubs.

Kick-off is at 15:30.
