Kante 'makes Chelsea decision' with contract expiring soon

N'Golo Kante has now reportedly made a big decision about his future, with his Chelsea contract expiring at the end of this season.

The central midfielder's future has been a hot topic over the past few months, with reports earlier this campaign indicating that the club was considering not renewing his deal.

With Kante being one of the highest-paid stars in the team with reported wages of £290 000 (R6.3 million) a week, it was said the Blues were not willing to extend the player's contract on the same terms due to his fitness issues in recent years.

This was believed to have led to negotiations stalling between the two parties, with the France star unwilling to lower his salary.

However, Foot Mercato are now reporting that Kante is on the brink of agreeing a new three-year deal with the west London club, with an option of a further year.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the 31-year-old wants to stay at Chelsea because of his "love" for the team.

This is said to have played a key role in seemingly successful contract negotiations.

The midfielder has piqued the interest of a number of top European clubs over the past few months, including Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, but it appears Chelsea have now fended off any potential suitors.

Kante has endured a frustrating 2022/23 campaign so far, missing most of the season, including the 2022 FIFA World Cup, through injury, but the Les Bleus star is expected to be back in action in later this month.
