Rulani responds to reports of escalating Sundowns crisis

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has reacted to reports of an escalating crisis within the club after reports that two players recently reported to training under the influence of alcohol.

KickOff revealed previously in a separate incident that a first-team player had also tested positive for an illegal substance and had been subsequently suspended.

Further reports have since implicated Andile Jali and Sipho Mbule as two players who allegedly reported for duty under the influence of alcohol.

There has also been sensational revelations that Rulani had been involved in a bust-up with a senior first-team player that points towards a dressing-room split.

Mbule has a history of discipline issues stemming from his time at SuperSport United, while Jali is out of contract at the end of June and has fallen out of favour with a single 90-minute appearance from the past 13 games.

"I've said, you look for negatives from me, I don't have any about my players. I will never speak negatively about my players," responded Mokwena when asked directly about the recent reports.

"Never ever, ever.

"So, I've got no comment about that."

Sundowns were 3-1 winners in the Nedbank Cup on Thursday to move into the last eight and remain on course in the CAF Champions League and a sixth DStv Premiership title in a row.

"We are in the last three competitions, and we try very hard to win every game and every competition that we are competing in.

"This is why we have the squad that we have and that is why we have the quality that we have to be able to rotate and give everybody a chance.

"Everyone has done very well so far and I'm happy with the spirit in the group and the quality of the training sessions and the work that we are putting in behind the scenes.

"I'm satisfied with the work of the players and the commitment from everybody, the intensity of our work," says Mokwena.
