Hazard 'has decided' his future at Real Madrid

Having played just under 300 minutes of football this season, Real Madrid star Eden Hazard has now reportedly made a big decision about his future at the club.

Real's club-record transfer of Hazard from Chelsea in July 2019 has fallen drastically short of expectations for both the player and the club.

The 32-year-old arrived in the Spanish capital at a cost of €115 million (R2.2 billion) after spending seven years at Stamford Bridge.

However, injuries, poor form and weight issues have characterised the Belgian's time at the Santiago Bernabeu since, with the winger having made only 73 appearances in more than three-and-a-half years at the club.

His output in the games he has played have also not met the high expectations, registering just seven goals and 11 assists for Real to date.

Having retired from the Belgium national team after the 2022 FIFA World Cup to focus on domestic football, things have got worse for the ex-Blues talisman under manager Carlo Ancelotti, who has reduced him to just 296 minutes of action all season.

In fact, his last appearance in LaLiga came in September 2022.

According to The Athletic, however, Hazard has decided he will see out the remainder of his contract at Los Blancos, which is set to expire in June 2024.

The attacker is said to have met with his representatives last month in Madrid, where they decided he will stay in the Spanish capital due to a number of personal and professional reasons.

The No. 7 is also said to feel settled in the city, while one of his sons joined Real's youth academy last month.

The report further claims that Hazard would not leave under any scenario in the next transfer window.

Despite Los Blancos' various attempts to offload him in the past few years due to his limited impact, though, there have been no formal offers for the ex-Belgium captain.

The 2014/15 Premier League Player of the Season's relationship with Ancelotti is also said to have drastically deteriorated, with the star disappointed with his bench role as he had the impression he would have an important role in the squad in this campaign.
