Riveiro explains surprise Erasmus substitution

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has explained the surprise substitution of goal scorer Kermit Erasmus during to the Buccaneers' Nedbank Cup victory over VFA (Venda Football Academy) on Saturday night.

The Buccaneers sealed a spot in the quarter finals of the Nedbank Cup with a 2-1 win over Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit VFA courtesy of goal from Kermit Erasmus and Thembinkosi Lorch.

Erasmus was surprisingly not among the Pirates players that emerged from the tunnel for the second half of the fixture, being replaced by striker Terrence Dzvukamanja.

Riveiro has since explained that the move was a precautionary measure.

"About Kermit [Erasmus], he felt something early in the first half maybe after 20, 22 minutes. We had a conversation outside and he was feeling some pain," Riveiro said post-match.

"We decided not to take any risk at half time and make it worse and that's why we decided together to substitute him.
