'Maybe it's the colour of my skin? - Furious Zwane hits back at Chiefs red-card questions

Head coach Arthur Zwane has hit back at the criticism directed at the high number of penalties being awarded to Kaizer Chiefs while opponents have questioned several refereeing decisions.

Chiefs are the team with the most number of penalties being awarded in their favour with opposing teams also being reduced to 10 men on a number of occassions.

A frustrated Zwane has now hit back at the bizarre complaints after defending the decisions as legitimate calls by match officials.

"I understand what people are saying, but I would also say they can do their own homework and maybe watch all those games and review actually, then tell me if they [red cards] were not legitimate," Zwane told journalists on Thursday.

"We played against Richards Bay earlier this season and got a red card. When we got the red card the score as 0-0, we won the game 1-0. So why don't people mention that?

"I clearly don't understand this, that's what I'm saying, why don't people look at the positives rather to focus more on the negatives? Certain things you understand, maybe it's the colour of my skin? But it's fine. We learn, we grow every day In this game.

"Actually the credit should be given to these [Chiefs] players because they work very hard. It's never easy [to beat teams that are a player down].

"That's why I'm making an example, against Sundowns, Cape Town City were one-man down, 18 minutes left, with the quality of Sundowns, they did not score, did Sundowns not create chances? They did.

"They had about three, four, clear-cut chances. For me, when I was watching the game, they had maybe two ,if I'm not mistaken. They could have scored and Sundowns have been doing very well.

"Now look at the teams we played against, when they were one man down, didn't we create chances? We only missed chances.

"That's why I clearly don't understand. If you come to me and say we're not creating chances then I understand, but you can't say the performance [of Chiefs] has been poor. The performance can't be poor when you create chances. The performance is poor when you don't crate chances at all.

"Now in the last game we played, how may chances did we create when they had eleven players and how many chances did we create when they were  a player down, we could have easily scored seven or eight. But it wasn't to be."

Chiefs next take on Marumo Gallants on Saturday at FNB Stadium.

Kick-off is at 20:00.
