Upset Ancelotti reacts to racists chants aimed at Vinicius

With Vinicius Junior having been the target of racist chants once again in LaLiga on Sunday, Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has issued a strong statement regarding the abuse aimed at the Brazilian star.

The 22-year-old was sent off in the late stages of his side's 1-0 defeat to Valencia after appearing to strike opponent Hugo Duro.

The incident was an emotionally charged one as Vinicius was the subject of racially offensive chants by some of the home supporters at the Mestalla, who were heard repeatedly calling the player a "monkey".

His sending-off seems to have further frustrated the winger, who issued an angry statement via social media aimed at LaLiga's continuous failure to protect him given that this was not the first time he had been in a similar position this season, describing the Spanish top flight as now "belonging to racists".

His boss Ancelotti was also left upset by the events that unfolded, and after the match, refused to discuss his team's defeat in order to address what had happened to the Los Blancos attacker.

Asked what he wanted to talk about instead, he told Movistar: "About what happened here. I think that's more important. More important than a defeat, don't you?

Asked about Vinicius' frame of mind, Ancelotti added: "He didn't want to play on. I told him that I didn't think it was fair, it wasn't his fault, he wasn't to blame. He continued playing, and he also got a senseless red card. That said, we have a problem.

"For me, Vinícius is one of the best in the world. These episodes of racism can't happen, it was the whole stadium, not just one person, as on other occasions.

"It has to be stopped. And I would say the same if we won 3-0."

The Italian coach also revealed that he appealed to the referee to take corrective action, but his request was denied as a result of protocols set out by LaLiga.

"I told him he has to stop the match. He told me that the protocol says that you have to report it, but he has been insulted from the first minute," Ancelotti continued.

"Stop the match. For me, it's to stop the match. It's clear that this can't go on, it's impossible.

"He is the player who receives the most fouls and the most insults."
