Latest on Chiefs’ chase for Fiston Mayele

The in-form forward scored seven goals in the CAF Champions League and since the relegation of Yanga to the Confederation Cup, has added another seven.

Such has been the 28-year-old's form that he has another 18 goals in Tanzania's domestic league where Young Africans are already champions.

As Mayele continues scoring Iran club Sepahan FC – who play in the Persian Gulf Pro League where they finished as runners-up enabling them qualification to the Asian Champions League qualifiers – have taken note and shown interest.

In the meanwhile, after also initially raising a hand of interest Kaizer Chiefs have stepped back without making any further attempts and will settle for options withinin their transfer budget.

Yanga confirmed to KickOff initially that Chiefs did show initial interest but have since taken a backseat due to the player's high asking price to complete a transfer alongside the player's salary demands.

The Tanzanians are aiming to pocket at least R10 million for the transfer – which is above what Chiefs are keen to pay based on their budget for the next transfer window.

Mamelodi Sundowns remain another option in the DStv Premiership, but are weighing up their options in attack with Nigerian striker Etiosa Ighodaro returning after an impressive season out on loan at Chippa United.

However, if the Brazilians do decide to sell Ighodaro to a European outfit that could then trigger a push to consider Mayele.

Mayele is keen on moving to South Africa but for that to happen a transfer fee must be paid as he is contracted for an additional year.

Sudanese club Al Hilal are banking on using the influence of their coach Florent Ibenge – who is Congolese to bring in Mayele while Raja Casablanca and Al Merrikh have also been mentioned.
