With his side having lost that match on penalties, the Portuguese manager was left incensed by several decision taken by the Premier League-based match official, and later confronted him in the stadium's parking lot, hurling a barrage of insults towards the Englishman.
However, this was not the first time Mourinho had targeted a referee in less than a month, having also verbally attacked Italian official Daniele Chiffi, labelling him as the "worst referee" he has seen after his side drew 1-1 with Monza in Serie A on 3 May.
"This was the worst referee I have encountered in my entire career," Mourinho told DAZN at the beginning of last month.
"Believe me, I have dealt with many bad referees. Usually, when I talk about referees, it is because they have a direct influence on the game. In this case, I don't think that is true.
"But he is horrible, he makes no human connection with anyone, he has no empathy, he gives a red card to a player who slips because he is exhausted at the 96th minute."
Like UEFA, Italian authorities have not taken his scathing attacks on referees lightly as he has now been given a 10-day ban from the start of the next Serie A season.
According to their the FIGC website, the national federal court of Italy's football federation, Mourinho has also been given a £43 000 (R1 million) fine for his unprofessional comments along with the 10-day ban, while his club were fined the same amount as liability.
