Player goes on 'strike' to force Man City move

A Manchester City target has now reportedly gone on strike in a desperate attempt to force a move to the Etihad.

The champions of Europe are yet to wrap up their transfer business, despite having made three signings already, namely Mateo Kovacic, Josko Gvardiol, and Jeremy Doku.

An injury to Kevin De Bruyne in the opening game of the 2023/24 Premier League season has since forced the club to explore the market for an additional midfielder to potentially step into that role.

The club was initially linked with a move for West Ham United star Lucas Paqueta, but talks between the Citizens and the Brazilian slowed down after it emerged that he is the subject of an FA inquiry into suspicious betting activities.

As such, Pep Guardiola's side have reportedly turned their attention to Wolverhampton Wanderers playmaker Matheus Nunes instead.

However, Wolves are believed to have already turned down two bids from the Citizens for the player as they did not meet their asking price of £60 million (R1.4 billion).

According to The National, the Portuguese midfielder has now gone on strike at Molineux in a bid to force his move to City.

It is said that, as a result, Nunes now faces the risk of disciplinary action, despite having made it clear to his club that he wants to leave.

It is further claimed that, despite his strike, Wolves are likely to reintegrate the 25-year-old back into the team if his desired exit falls through, with the transfer deadline on Friday night, although City are expected to send in another bid soon.

Nunes' contract at Wolves is set to expire in June 2027, which is said to be part of the reason why they are looking to make a greater profit on their €45 million (R902 million) investment in the player.
