WATCH: Teko on Bafana - 'I feel some players have been overlooked'

Former Bafana Bafana star Teko Modise has given his honest assessment of Hugo Broos's final 23-man squad ahead of friendlies against Namibia and DR Congo.

Bafana are set to host Namibia on Saturday before taking on DR Congo three days later on Tuesday as part of the national team's preparations for next year's Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).

Modise, who as part of Bafana's 2010 World Cup squad and has 66 national team appearances under his belt, believes certain players have been overlooked for selection.

"Most of the players who have been selected were players that I felt would be selected but I still have an issue of the right back position," Modise told journalists at the Hollywoodbets Durban 10km race on Sunday.

"I still feel like there are other players that have been overlooked, I think [Deano] van Rooyen from Stellenbosch has been overlooked, I think you if look at team and how they perform, you look at the people that he is competing against in that position [at Bafana], I think he is one of the best in the country but we would be having a different conversation if he was playing for one of the big teams.

"I also feel like in that midfield, if we have to compete, we can't have similar type of players. If you look at it internationally, you have players that are willing to do anything for the team defensively and you have players that are very offensive attacking and very creative.

"Mamelodi Sundowns is very dominant in the league, dominant in the country but I feel like there are a lot of other things that Bafana can do differently to Sundowns."

"If you have eight or nine players from Mamelodi Sundowns, therefore you have to have a system that players like Mamelodi Sundowns that we don't have [in the national team].

Bafana's match against Namibia will be played at Orlando Stadium. Kick off is at 15:00.
